Report from George Markie
The discovery of a badly mutilated deer found at Middlefield near Cupar has increased speculation about a big cat in the Cupar area.
Moira Walker had seen the deer behaving in a highly agitated way shortly before the corpse was found by her husband. He described the carcass as having its throat torn out and the bones looked as if theyŐd been gnawed.
"There was blood everywhere and the deer looked as if it had been dragged for about 20 yards. In my opinion there is no way a fox or dog could have been responsible."
Rab Walker noted that "The whole place was very quiet, and Middlefield is never quiet. At that time in the morning there are all sorts of animal and bird noises, and I think I must have disturbed the kill. From what I have been told it seem that whatever killed the deer must have been lying watching me, and thatŐs why all the other wildlife was silent."
