Large cat-like creature seen by Dunfermline

Date_and_Time: 16/07/2002. 00.35am
Location: Outskirts of Dunfermline. Between Tesco and the Odeon cinema. Travelling to Glenrothes. Fife.
Description: A large cat like creature, black, sleek looking. about the size of a large dog. Approximately 25 inches in height and 33 inches in body length[not including head or tail]. Also had a long thin tail.
Movement: Elegant. Moved like a cat. Speed of movement was between walking and running pace.
Noise: Couldn't hear anything as in a car.
Duration: A few seconds. The animal crosed the road and went into a field.
Distance: 20 to 30 feet away. Slightly above animal as veered from a car.
Weather: Nightime so it was dark. Dry and still mild.
Evidence: None
Other_witnesses: None.My son was in the car but was not looking at the road. By the time I told him to look he had missed it.
Additional: We stopped the car and turned back to have another look. My son left the car and approached the part of the field where the animal entered. He didn't see anything but said after hearing nothing initially he heard very loud rustling coming from nearby.
