Report from Chris Smith
A Fife woman says her dog was attacked by a mysterious beast which foamed at the mouth.
When Sandra Devine heard whining and thumping outside her home she opened the door to see a black animal with its jaws clamped around her dog's neck.
The attacker was silent and eventually ran off.
Mrs Devine's husband Kenneth said: "It was close to midnight when I heard my wife's hysterical screaming.
"Our Irish setter, Belle, was going about her business in our garden. My wife opened the door to the dark garden to see a black animal with its foaming jaws around our dog's throat.
"This beast was silent, no barking or other sounds, and ran off eventually after much screaming from my wife."
Mrs Devine said she had not seen it clearly enough to say if it was a feral cat or stray dog.
Police officers came but found no trace of the animal, The Courier reports.
The Devines' dog is recovering from the ordeal.
