Report from Mike Inglis
A 'BIG' black cat was spotted on Tuesday morning in fields surrounding Newton of Falkland.
Alex McPhee, a retired Freuchie resident, was walking his labrador and a neighbour's dog when he spotted the unusual animal.
He saw the animal - about the same height as the dogs with him moving up the field.
I watched it for three or five minutes and the more I looked at it the more it looked like a big cat."
To confirm what he was seeing, he called on the occupant of a bungalow nearby.
The cat then ran off "reasonably fast" into another field when a car arrived. Mr McPhee described the cat as dark brown to blackish.
It wasn't a wild cat," he said. I have seen a wild cat and they're not so big. If I hadn't had someone confirm the sighting I wouldn't have mentioned it to anybody."
His description was said by a police spokesman to be along the same lines as other sightings.
The spokesman added: "The sightings have happened during the day and at night.
If there was a set area or pattern then you could probably wait and see it arrive but it doesn't seem to be a creature of habit."
