A witness was "shocked" to see a big cat on the road from Fauldhouse in West Lothian to Glasgow, about half a mile from the town of Fauldhouse itself.
The animal was a brown cat with a round face, stocky and very agile. It was about the size of a spaniel. The animal was rummaging through black rubbish bags as the witness came over the hill and saw it in a slight dip.
The animal immediately looked up and headed off in the opposite direction through aconifererous wood.
The witness is unable to guess at type of cat it. He was unaware that there had been other sightings in the area.
Most other reports from the area are of a black animal rather than a brown one.
