Report from George Markie
Mrs Ann McLaughlan of Anstruther came face to face with a mystery cat on the night of 2nd October.
She went into her yard and "All of a sudden this cat, which I think is a panther, jumped right out in front of me with a horrendous noise.
The cat was described as "large, black with a very large head. It had amber eyes, a long tail and teeth about and inch and a half long."
The witness said that the cat resembled others she had seen in India and was sure it was a panther.
She also said that previous to the sighting locals had heard noises and found dead crows which they believe the cat was responsible for.
