Report from Chris Smith
Terrified council workers called the police after spotting a huge "panther-like creature" prowling in woods near a family picnic spot. The three grass-cutters were left shaking with fear when the jet black animal reared its head before bolting. Jack Marr, 53, was the first person to spot the 'beast' near Anstruther, Fife. He said: "It was around 3ft high, jet black and had a small face and a very long tail. It was too large to be a dog and had a feline posture. It was silent, never making a sound and I am convinced it was a panther."
The sightings - which came within 90 minutes of each other - are the latest to be reported in the East Neuk area. Last night a police spokesman said: "We are taking this very seriously."
