Report from George Markie
The description of the colour, coat pattern, ear shape and tufts of this cat suggests it may have been a lynx. Chris Smith.
Summer 1976, Drumnadrochit, Inverness-shire
Mrs Sharon Lord was holidaying at Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness, in the summer of 1976, and sat down on a hillside. As she stretched out her arm behind her, to her horror she put her hand on a large cat-like animal that had been lying concealed in the bracken. The animal leapt up, spitting, and bit her hand, the crescent shaped scar remaining to this day. As she screamed, the animal sprang away and disappeared into the undergrowth. She described it as twice the size of a domestic cat, about the size of a medium dog, orangey-brown in colour with black spots and stripes. It had pricked-up ears with tufts of hair on the end. She didn't see a tail but, as she said, "I was too busy concentrating on the end with the teeth to bother about looking for a tail."
