Report from Brian Godwin
In August 1976, just South of Glasgow, a strong animal ripped its way through a high wire fence to attack some geese.
Five geese found dead on John Stewart's farm, eight miles South of Glasgow in 1976 were believed to have been killed by the big cat that had been roaming Ayrshire and Renfrewshire since 1973.
To reach the geese this animal ripped open a 6 ft high wire fence and the normally vicious Alsatian was left cowering in terror. Richard O' Grady, then director of Calderpark Zoo was "satisfied that the puncture marks on the body were typical of how a puma kills."
