Report from Chris Smith
Exact date unknown, 1975, Strathnaver, Sutherland.
Besides Inverness-shire and Ross and Cromarty, another part of Scotland to produce a large number of big-cat reports over the years is Sutherland. The first sighting to be recorded and taken notice of by te police was in the Strathnaver area in 1975. A police sergeant on holiday was driving in the strath with three passengers when an animal like a puma suddenly leapt out in front of the car. It bounded across the road carrying a rabbit in its mouth and with one apparently effortless leap, cleared a 9 ft high forestry fence. Reports of other sightings slowly came in.
