ROMANTIC Scots are being urged to adopt a beaver as the perfect Valentine gift.
The Mammals Trust is launching the scheme to try to raise cash so the buck-toothed animal - hunted to extinction in Britain 500 years ago - can be reintroduced in Scotland.
The charity has already pledged pounds 150,000 into a scheme to set up a beaver colony at the Knapdale Forest in Argyll. Under the Valentine scheme, people will pay pounds 25 to support the initiative.
Natascha Bowett, spokeswoman for The Mammals Trust, said: "People have a very affectionate image of the beaver, and we want to make them aware of what is being done to bring this species back."
