The Scottish Big Cats group which monitors the sightings of large cat-like animals in Scotland says that the number reported is almost 1,000 this year. The big cats (which may be pumas, panthers or lynxes) are rarely captured and film evidence is sometimes of the "Loch Ness Monster" variety. But the animals have been blamed for the killing of turkeys, deer and ducks. The Scottish Borders area has become a "hot spot" for reported sightings.
