We have joined forces with noted big cat researchers and experts from across Britain, mainland Europe and America.
Together we have created the nation's first serious Research Paper on British Feral Big Cat's.
Read the following extract from our magazine by renowned researcher and writer Nigel Brierly, author of They Stalk By Night.
It is known beyond doubt that exotic species such as Leopard Cat, Swamp Cat and African Wild Cat have been, (and probably still are) at large in the (British) country side: carcasses have been found of each of these species. The Kellas Cat, a hybrid between the Scottish Wildcat and Domestic Cat, has been shot in numbers on the Scottish Borders, and it would not surprise me if two other hybrid cats will go feral in the future. The main Coon, a hybrid cross between Lynx and Domestic Cat; and yet another hybrid is likely to be sold to the British cat fancier in the near future - the Chausie, a cross between the Jungle Cat and Domestic Cat. All these hybrids, produced in the United States, grow to 25lbs or more. They are legally sold without licence in this country and could cause problems to existing wildlife etc. when some eventually go feral.
Much bigger cats than these exist in the wild in our countryside. So far, only one species - the Puma - has been positively identified. It is very likely that one or more species of Lynx are out there and possibly Panther (Leopard) although much remains to be proved.
Never before have so many respected researchers made public their research material.
Our Aims & Objectives Are to:
Encourage other big cat researchers to reveal their research material as we have done...
to publish, in an annual magazine, the nation's first ever public paper on big cat research....
to produce indisputable proof that big cats are at large in the United Kingdom.
Brierly of North Devon and Operation Big Cat have joined forces to encourage other researchers to follow their lead and make public their research material.
They are joined as feature writers in the new magazine by:
The Essex Big Cat Research Group; Jacky Cullingford of Somerset; Mark Henson of Leicestershire; Marcus Mathews of Wiltshire; Danny Nineham (The Forest Catman) from the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire; Mark Fraser of Scotland............and many others.
This is a magazine that everyone should read.....for a free-roaming wild British puma, panther or lynx could walk into any of our lives any moment......and they might do so today!
The Operation Big Cat Year 2000 British Research Report Magazine costs £5. inc. p&p.
Please make cheques or postal orders payable to Operation Big Cat.......and send it to:
Operation Big Cat, 14 Rayns Close, Sprowston, Norwich. NR6 7QX.
