Report from Mike Inglis
Reading your story in the Sunday Post (sightings of cats in scotland) brings back memories of a night me and my friend were planning to do some metal detecting. We were walking along a farm track with trees on both sides, when a big black cat jumped from one side of the track to the other about 10-15 feet in front of us, the track being about 6 feet wide. I can still remember the sound as it landed, its coat was short and glossy with muscular hind legs and a long curved tail. We both froze for about a minute, before making a hasty retreat. The sighting was on a north east estate in Banffshire.
Second sighting two months later same area. Myself and another metal detectorist were detecting in a field on the same estate about 12.30 am we had been detecting for about an hour, when my friend came over and told me there was something moving in the bushes. He felt as though something was stalking him. At that point we saw this big cat walking down the edge of the fence, silhouetted by the lights of the village in the background. I can still picture it in my mind. It was more like the shape of a tiger, long and broad its belly hanging quite low. At one point it stopped and looked in our direction and then carried on a kind of slouching walk. It stopped at our rucksacks we had left at the fence, walked in a circle round them and then disapeared onto a disused railway line. During this time me and my friend were frozen to the spot for about 15 minutes untill we decided to run for it If you would like any further information please contact me.
