Report from Nick Wirsten
This is the transcript of the news item on the 6 pm Border News last night:
A tourist driving in the Sanquhar area of Upper Nithsdale spotted a large creature near the Golf Course outside the town. The animal run out in front of him and he said it was larger than a dog with a thick black glossy coat, muscular build, at least 18 inches at the shoulders and looked like a panther.
Inspector Phil Stewart of D&G police said, and I quote-"It's the first time we've had a report from this area, and yes we do it very seriouly from a public safety point of view".
Two locals out walking their dogs were interviewed but they said they were unconcerned about it."
Then there was a bit of film of where the two "wildcats as they are calling them were seen outside Melrose which is a busy area trafficwise and in a large hotel's grounds.
