Report from Aron Bowers
Personal communication, letters, after newspaper article re: my
Pluscarden footprints. Kellas cat sighting...
Witness: Anonymous
Location: Pluscarden area
Description:
"..About a month ago (02-03, AB) however I was tipping waste onto
the compost heap when I saw the first melanistic wildcat in ten
years - this has sometimes been suggested as the true identification
of the Kellas cat. It was as big as a wildcat, about half as big
again as a big domestic tabby, but wholly black. we both froze and
watched each other for about a minute. It had its head turned
towards me- it was hunting along the edge of a field - and I clearly
saw that it had unusually long fangs, which it bared in my
direction. Eventually it walked off and out of sight. Later I saw
the photograph in the Fortean Times magazine (photo of Tomas
Christie's taxiderm Kellas cat, now in Elgin museum, AB), which
exactly resembles what I saw. I cannot comment on the length of tail
or legs because it was crouching down with its' tail held flat on
the ground when I saw it."
