Report from Reuel Chisholm
Note that Mark Fraser from Yorkshire is not a member of the Scottish Big Cats Society. In fact this individual left us in November 2001 to join the British Big Cat Society. Dr Christina Anne Smith.
A large cat-like creature the size of a collie dog has been spotted in the
Nairn area.
A couple reported seeing the beast in a field by the A96 north-east of
Auldearn while driving from their home in Forres to Inverness.
Sandy & Michelle Frost say they saw the big cat while driving along the road
between Broombank and Gallows Hill when her husband, who was driving,
remarked that there was a big black cat in the field.
She said: "I looked to his side of the road and saw a pitch black cat walking
very slowly. It was definitely a cat. A very big cat."
Michelle said it was definitely not a leopard or a lynx.
Reporting the sighting to the Scottish Big Cat Society, they said they saw
the animal at a distance of about 125 yds in clear and bright conditions.
Mark Fraser of the society believes they probably saw a Scottish Wild Cat or
a Kellas cat, which is about twice the size of a domestic cat.
