Date and Time: 1 Two cats on Monday 24th. 14.30 hours
2. larger cat only seen 15.45 hours Tuesday 25th.
Location: (1) field above Cardrona Mains Farm
(2) wooded area to right of field behind house, on Peebles to Traquair road
Description: (1) Labrador size , pure white, long tail, head in proportion to size of body
(2) larger than wildcat, pure white, shorter tail than 1
Movement: agile, jumped up on to 3ft. wall ran along it.
Duration: 1 Monday 24th. 3-4 minutes
2 Tuesday 25th. 6-8 minutes
Distance: sighting 1 180 yards
sighting 2 100 yards
both seen from below, cats at top of field
Weather: Sunny and dry
Evidence: sighting 2, I went to where cat had been seen and found large burrow, freshly dug, with dry grass at entrance. saw droppings which were not rabbit or sheep, nor domestic cat.
Other witnesses: both sightings by two witnesses
Reference: previous sighting by neighbour in Plummerknowe, Cardrona in December, 2002, reported on Border TV
Additional: On second sighting of larger single cat, saw it apparently catch a rabbit in the wood and then appear to eat it. I went to area of sighting 10 minutes later but saw no sign of carcase but signs of disturbed earth, near to site of burrow. .
