Report from Reuel Chisholm
(The individual mentioned in the report below has been attempting to mislead newspapers and the public by passing himself off as a member of Scottish Big Cats. Withing a week he has described himself (correctly) as "Mark Fraser of the British Big Cats Society (Scotland)" and twice (falsely) as "Mark Fraser of Scottish Big Cats" and "Mark Fraser of the Scottish Big Cat Society". After five months as a member, Fraser left Scottish Big Cats in 2001.)
An Aberdeen woman claims she's made the latest sighting of a mysterious big cat.
Kathleen Smith, of Belhelvie, said she came face-to-face with a puma-like animal this week.
A similar jet-black beast was reported by a Kingswells couple in March.
Mrs Smith was driving on her way to work at Aberdeen Airport when she spotted the animal at Parkhill.
She said: "It was like a puma. The head was really big and it had a long body and a huge, very thick tail with a curl."
Mark Fraser, of Scottish Big Cats, believes the sighting shows more big beasts are roaming in rural spots.
He said: "I believe there are large cats in the Scottish countryside.
"The lynx is re-establishing itself again after an absence of thousands of years."
Grampian Police wildlife liaison coordinator Mike Watson, said: "We do get
reports from time to time of big cats."
