Large black cat seen in cage in garden!

Hi,
Well, I've got a slightly new take on this phenomenon. As I was travelling north from Fife to Perthshire by train in July 2002, my 10-year old son, who was sitting opposite me, saw what he reckoned was a large black cat, possibly a panther, lying down in a cage in someone's back garden! As you can imagine, I was a little sceptical but having read all the other sighting reports..... I'm not so sure!
I think the garden was just south of perth itself. can anyone shed any light?.
Maybe the owner lets him out at night, just like domestic cats!
