Report from Mike Inglis
Just found your site about big cats in Scotland and would like to relate sightings of two big cats in the Stranraer area. These cats have been seen by myself and three other friends on seperate occasions.
Stranraer, April 2002
My sighting was in the middle of the day in April 2002, coming out of Stranraer on the A75 the colour of the cat that I saw was very light almost white. The cat was walking across a field that was very over grown, the grass was around 2 feet high but the cat was very visible above the height of the grass it was longer than a large dog with a tail which was about the same length as the body of the cat.
Glenluce, around November 2000
The second sighting was witnessed by a friend of mine around 18 months ago on the Glenluce/ Newluce road late at night. My friend was driving back from Newluce when she spotted two eyes reflecting in the headlights of her car she thought at first that it was a stray sheep on the road so she slowed down as she got closer she realised that it wasn't a sheep but a large black cat. It was larger than a normal cat about the size of a large dog she drew level with the cat and it just carried on walking along the side of her car.
This cat has since been seen by at least 2 other people known to me in the last year. Savaged sheep and parts of sheep have also been seen in these areas and a story appeared recently in the Wigtownshire Free Press about a herd of wild deer disappearing at Newluce.
