From Strathclyde Police, 23 rd December2002
"About 0320 hours on Monday, 23 December, 2002, police were called to reports of unusual noises in Aitken Place, Ardrossan.
"On arrival at the locus, police officers observed an animal with a dark coat, approximately 3ft tall with yellow eyes.
"On seeing the activity, the animal moved off into undergrowth.
"Members of the public are asked to be vigilant and any sightings of the animal to be reported to the police.
"The animal should not be approached."
