Report from George Markie
Last night's Grampian News (6.00pm 10 Jan 2001) had a report about a possible big cat in the Huntly area. The basic story was that James King, a farmer near Huntly found the remains of a lamb which had been killed by some predator. The farmer was quite certain that the injuries had not been inflicted by a dog or fox. He explained that over the years he had seen injuries inflicted on sheep by almost everything from foxes to seagulls! and the injuries to the lamb didn't match anything he seen before. He particularly emphasised how the lamb's skin had been peeled back and how it had been "neatly done".
The report also stated that experts from the Scottish Agricultural College said that the injuries were similar to those found on sheep in the area five years ago when a big cat was suspected.
The following report appeared on Grampian Teletext
A mysterious big cat roaming Aberdeenshire may have carried out an attack on a lamb which left its bones "completely stripped bare."
Farmer James King, from Huntly, found the remains when he checked his flock.
The carcass has been taken to the Scottish Agricultural College for examination. Police have warned others to be on the lookout for the predator.
