A black cat with a long tail was seen just outside a hamlet near Hawick in the Scottish Borders.
The hindquarters of a large animal with a short coat - coloured black with a red tinge. The top outline was rounded as the animal was stepping upward into bracken, the back legs angular but powerful. The tail was about two feet in length with the hair growing evenly around it, no "brush" or feather on either legs or tail. The end of the tail was "rounded" The time was about 10.15 pm on Friday 16 th November.
The cat was about 10 feet away. It didn't appear to panic but still made a fast escape. As I only viewed the rear half I can only guess it's length as around 4 - 5 feet and around 2 to 2.5 feet in height.
