Report from Chris Smith
An Aberdeenshire man had a close encounter of the feline kind at the weekend, when he saw what he believes to be a big cat.
David Mitchell, of Kintore, was on his way home from Aberdeen on Sunday when he saw a large "cat-like" animal crossing the A944 a few miles past Elrick, at about 5.45pm.
"I thought I was seeing things but it was definitely cat-like and big, at least four or five times bigger than a normal cat.
"I was coming out of Aberdeen, I came through Elrick and it was on a long straight, tree-lined part of the road that I saw what I believed to be a big cat-like creature.
"As I slowed down, I looked to the left and saw what looked like its back end going into the bushes, it was very distinctive and definitely had a tail."
Mr Mitchell, 34, is a subsea computer-aided-designer and said he has always been very sceptical about these kind of sightings.
"I came home and told my wife and I saw the article about another sighting in today's Press and Journal. I was glad I saw the article because I thought I was maybe seeing things.
"I was very sceptical about these things but I'm not now."
A woman reported seeing what is thought to have been a puma in the wooded area behind an Aberdeen street, on Sunday.
The matter has since been reported to the wildlife liaison team.
