Sighting from Chris Smith
A nightshift guard at a farm outside Haddington got the fright of his life when he saw what appeared to be a 'big cat' on the prowl in front of his car.
The security guard, who has not been named, was working at Beanston Mains on Friday night when he saw the beast. He was in his car at around 10 pm when he saw what he described as 'a large, Puma-like creature' near the front of the vehicle, but when he turned his headlights on to get a better look the animal fled.
Police were called to investigate the sighting and checked the gardens of local householders for any sign the beast. One local cat owner, who asked not to be named, was understandably surprised to find the police knocking on his door so late in the evening.
'They came to check my back garden, as the guard thought it had run off in this direction,' he said. 'They didn't find any paw marks or anything, but from what they were saying the guard was apparently quite adamant about what he had seen.'
Like many of his neighbours the man had already been aware of stories about the animal, and suggested that, while his two pet cats seemed unconcerned about any threat to their territory, there could have been more sightings than reported.
