Report from Mark Fraser
Recent sightings in Kilmarnock
A large black cat has been seen in Kilmarnock several times since Tuesday morning, I have only just found out about this now. I have no further info, only that's its black, police are appealing for information and are apparently conducting a search. Myself and Hannah are away to the area in a few moments, will let you know if anything else happens.
The cat has been seen in the town and not the countryside, which has happened quite regularly in Kilmarnock over the years.
Best wishes all
Mark
I'm afraid I haven't got much further with the recent sightings in Kilmarnock and have not managed to talk to one single witness. What I do know is that there have been three separate sightings, by different witnesses on the 18th, 19th, 20th. The Kilmarnock police searched the area with the helicopter and panda cars, obviously without finding the cat.
The sighting on the 20th was made by an off duty postman at 04.15hrs while he was on his way to work. It was on a housing estate which is obviously a built-up area. The postman being the big brave lad that he was turned and ran when he realised that the animal he was looking at was a rather large cat, not what he was expecting at all.
The postman works out of the same depot as my lad, but no one is admitting to be the one involved as yet I guess for fear of ridicule, but the lad said he will try and find out who it was so hopefully I can get a statement off him.
The police were cagey and never got back to me, nor did the radio station which makes a change. But I haven't given up yet and will hopefully make contact with the witnesses.
Not knowing the exact piece of ground the sightings were made on, I obviously have not been able to find any tracks etc. nor do I expect too. None of the other locals in the area have seen anything that I have talked too.
But one positive thing is that the Kilmarnock police took these sightings seriously, which is something they have not done in the past.
