Thanks to George Markie for the following article. George reports "The Angus cat popped up again. This time it was a close up sighting and true to form, the location of this sighting was next to the disused railway line that runs through Angus. Furthermore, it was sighted by Lunan Water. Following Lunan Water eastwards lead to Inverkeilor and finally Lunan Bay, where recent sightings have occurred.
An Angus woman has described the moment she came within six feet of a huge black cat.
Lynda Elliot was walking in the grounds of Guthrie Castle, near Friockheim, with her three dogs when the massive animal appeared.
Mrs. Elliot, manager of Guthrie Castle Estate could only watch as it stared at her before slinking back into the bushes.
Her encounter ends the previous skepticism she had for reported sightings of the black cat of Angus.
"I am in no doubt about what I saw," she said.
"This was a large cat - bigger than my Neapolitan mastiff which is a big dog. I remember it was long, low to the ground and it had yellow-orange eyes."
Mrs. Elliot was walking at the edge of the Lunan Water when she heard some commotion in nearby bushes. As she turned to look, she saw two deer taking off followed by the cat, which she believes had been stalking them.
She estimates that the cat stood at least 32 inches at its shoulder.
Mrs. Elliot said the estate provided ideal surroundings for the animal to hide in.
