Thanks to George Markie for the following article. George reports "The Angus cat popped up again. This time it was a close up sighting and true to form, the location of this sighting was next to the disused railway line that runs through Angus. Furthermore, it was sighted by Lunan Water. Following Lunan Water eastwards lead to Inverkeilor and finally Lunan Bay, where recent sightings have occurred.
Fears that a predatory big cat may be stalking the Angus countryside appear to have been confirmed by a couple's New Year day sighting. The Perth couple are convinced they saw a highly confident big cat close to the A92 at Inverkeilor.
Their expereince follows a case where Feryyden man, Jim McGregor woke to find five of his pet rabbits had been savaged. Mr McGregor discovered the rabbit enclosures had been torn down, persuading him that a fox was not responsible. He also found fang marks on the rabbits which were five inches apart.
The Perth couple, who asked not to be named, made their sighting around tea-time on Monday - the latest in the string of reported incidents between Barry and Montrose.
They were driving south on the A92 with their three children when they had the mysterious encounter.
The man, who works for Scottish Hydro Electric said, "We had just come off the big hill south of Montrose and were on the straight section of the road past Inverkeilor when something caught our eye.
"The headlights lit up its eyes. I'm pretty sure it was a big cat standing on the west verge as if it were waiting to cross. We were driving quite slowly. The animal waited until the very last moment before bounding across the A92."
He added, "I don't think there was any chance of hitting it. It did give us a reasonable look at the beast and I am convinced it was feline which was acquainted with roads and humans."
