Sighting at around three in the morning on the Granthouse Road near Preston (A6112) in the Borders.
One lone male witness just having returned from Edinburgh. As he was driving along the road he caught sight of a large cat-like animal stood at the roadside in his headlights.
It was eating something which the witness thought was a pheasant, but not sure. The animal looked up at the approaching cat which stopped, after watching the driver for a full five seconds it hissed and casually walked off into the adjoining fields.
Hedescribes it as being jet-black, Alsatian sized, with a "very long tail" which trailed on the ground behind it. The witness describes the ears as "bent over and floppy " also having "yellowish" eyes and most definitely cat-like in its movements.
The witness also stated that one year ago a local farmer around Preston suffered 18 mutilated sheep in one night.
