Report from Ralph Barnett via George Markie
BIG CAT sightings continue to be reported in the Carnoustie area.
The latest comes from a visitor to the area who was driving north on the road linking East Haven with the A92 Dundee to Arbroath route.
Julie King, who comes from Southampton and is staying with. friends in Arbroath claims she saw a large cat-like creature standing in a field, just a few yards from the. road.
"I was driving up the road, from East Haven, heading back to Arbroath, when, I saw something odd at the-side of the road," she said.
"It was about eight o'clock so it was dark. Through the dark, however, I saw a pair of eyes shining out at me.
It was really was eerie. I slowed the car down and whatever it was, it clearly wasnÕt bothered by my presence as it just stood there and stared at me.
"It looked very much like a, lynx. It was about the size of a dog and a mix of tan and black in colour.
"After a few seconds it just turned and ran off across the, field. At its closest, it was just maybe 10 yards away from me and 1 wish I'd had a camera," she added.
Mrs King said she has an open mind about the possible existence of large cats in the, British countryside and she is, a. regular visitor to Devon where locals believe the so-called Beast of Exmoor roams.
"The Beast of Exmoor is often described as being like a big black panther. What I saw at Carnoustie was not dissimilar in size and appearance but was lighter," she added.
Earlier in the week Carnoustie business man Chic Grant, a former Royal Marine, reported a similar sighting in the same general area.
He said he spotted a large cat-like creature as he travelled along the Scryne road at around 6.30pm.
Other sightings have been reported in the countryside around Carnoustie, Barry, Monifieth, and Ashludie areas over the. past 12 months.
The latest spate of reports follows an incident investigated by police within: Carnoustie where two women claimed to have, seen a big cat on waste ground behind their homes in Burnside Gardens.
Officers failed to find any trace and to date no photographic or physical evidence has been presented -to support the notion that there is something on the prowl.
