Report from George Markie
Dundee City Council pest control officers pounced on the former Beatties Bakery in Clepington Road after a mystery animal was sighted. It is understood that a passing motorist reported seeing a large black cat-like beast roaming around the derelict site. In wet and gloomy conditions, pest control officers carried out a search of the environs and then ventured into the disused building with torches. No big cat was found, but animal wardens did make an interesting discovery on a mud bank near the St Francis football ground.
"Officers came across massive claw markings on a banking nearby which they covered with a large baker's box," said a council spokesperson. "They are not sure what made these marks, but they did say they were massive."
Only last week a big cat-like animal was reported by a driver on the A92 near the Panbride turn off to Carnoustie. This came days after similar sightings on the outskirts of Forfar.
