A Dundee man who poured scorn on previous reports of big-cat sightings in Tayside has had to reconsider after spotting what he believes to have been the beast early today. Mr Doug Beattie, who runs entertainment firm The Agency, was returning from a gig in Aberdeen along the A92 when he saw the animal bounding across the road, near the Panbride turn-off to Carnoustie.
"We were driving along the road when my driver, John Menzies, saw the cat," explained Mr Beattie. "The other passengers in the van were all in the back and didn't see it, but we saw it plain as day." Confessing to being sceptical about previous sightings, Doug said, "It was jet black and a lot larger than a house cat, bigger than a large dog. It ran across the road and into the fields at the other side. I just turned to John and said it looked like a puma or something."
This latest report comes days after similar sightings on the outskirts of Forfar. Rescobie Loch Bailiff Jack Yule saw a "bright-eyed, large cat-like animal" on two occasions, close to the Angus fishery. It is understood the creature has also been spotted on the edge of Montreathmont Wood, several miles east of Rescobie.
