Report from Chris Smith
Driver Jeremy Dutton caused a three-car pile up on the A9 after swerving to avoid a black and white animal on the road. And at Inverness Sheriff Court on Friday he denied it was a zebra crossing. But his excuse was enough to earn him an acquittal on a careless driving charge.
From the time he was taken into hospital in Inverness following the accident on 16 th December last year, the 34 year old sales manager of Lorn Place, Kirkintilloch, maintained he had seen the black and white creature about the Size of a Great Dane jump out in front of him.
And his explanation was enough to put doubt in Sheriff James Fraser's mind that the mystery could have caused the accident rather than Dutton's careless driving.
The sheriff found the charge against Dutton not proven. Dutton had denied driving on the A9 near Ralia carelessly, causing his vehicle to swerve in an uncontrolled manner, go out of control and collide with cars being driven by Inverness man Graham Forbes and Dunphail man Henry Brown.
