A couple were driving through the Dumfries end of the Galloway Forest. At the side of the road they saw a large black cat, sitting on the side of the road eating something. It had pinned its prey onto the road using its two front paws.
The animal was the size of a "large Labrador" with a wide gaping mouth with a "very glossy black coat".
The couple did not stop but the husband believed that he actually hit one of these cats in his car many years ago when driving from Troon on the back road to Crosshouse.
