Report from Mark Fraser
Mrs. M., Kilmarnock.
Monday apprx 7pm. Mrs Mallone was out walking her twelve year old West Highland Terrier on the grass verge near the Springhill nursing home. Suddenly the dog crouched low "as if it were going to stalk something, it never made a sound but stared straight ahead." Then a, "Very large cat-like animal appeared from behind a very large tree with a huge wide trunk."
The first thing that struck Mrs. Mallone was the creatures eyes which were a marina green in colour with orange pupils. The cat stared at the lady, who was rooted to the spot with fear and was frightened that it would attack her and her dog. The cat moved slowly from behind the tree and Mrs. Mallone described it as being shiny black in colour with long legs and long tail. It was the size of a fully grown Labrador. The witness backed away slowly pulling the dog with her, the dog still didn't make a sound, (Which was unusual for her Terrier.)
When describing her experience over a week later the animals eyes still worried her, she said, "The cat seemed intelligent and it stared at me almost trying to stare me out." She mentioned that there was a railway line around that area which is close to Mount House, were another report of a black animal was recorded. This old railway line leads to Dundonald.
