Report from Mark Fraser
During the school holidays D, his wife and children were driving from Dundonald towards Gateshead. They had just come past the Fraser's Garden Centre; past a big ranch type house on the road when they saw a large creature running into a field. The speed of the animal first caught D's eye and he watched it run out of sight.
The creature was long and golden coloured, similar in length to a Great Dane. It ran across a field full of cows which scattered at the animals approach.
D was so shocked and surprised at what he saw that he turned the car around to go back and look again, but the animal had gone. The cows had settled and nothing was to be seen of the strange visitor.
D at first tried to convince himself that it was a deer. As it was nothing like one in shape, nor did it move in a deer-like manner, he soon discounted this. It moved very quickly and gracefully and seemed very powerful.
D mentions that for decades now that it local hearsay that a puma lives wild on the Fenwick Moors.
