Sightings of cat-like beast mount

INSPECTOR LESLEY Crockett of the SSPCA in Dundee said last night there was no way of confirming the accuracy of apparent recent sightings of a wild cat or cats in the outskirts of Dundee without hard evidence to look at.
Mrs Crockett was responding to the sighting on Thursday night of a large, cat-like creature in countryside north of Dundee, which has raised the possibility that more than one of the beasts may be roaming the area.
The latest close encounter differed from the dozens of others which have been reported during the last year in that the animal was a brown-rust colour instead of the usual black.
It was spotted by Dundee couple, Audrey Bain and boyfriend, Garry McDonald, on the Auchterhouse-Tealing road south of the Sidlaws.
"We caught sight of it from the car. at about 8. 15 pm in a field about 100 metres away," Audrey said yesterday.
It's face was the same shape as a Doberman's with really. wee, pointy ears, but it, definitely had a slim, cat- like body.
I've never seen anything like it in my life. It looked really evil there's no way I'd go anywhere near it."
Previous sightings of a large feline beast. include, locations. from Forneth, between Blairgowrie and Dunkeld, in the west to Brechin in the east.
Last Saturday a Dundee man reported seeing what appeared to be a big cat in the Gotterstone area of the city and another sighting, placed it in the Broughty Ferry Esplanade.
Police have said they will continue to follow up all reported sightings but have no evidence to suggest the animal is a danger to people.
Mrs Crockett said "Given the amount of sightings which have been reported it is very possible we have some sort of large creature roaming around but it is very difficult to say what it could be."
She was sceptical of, the sighting reported. in Dundee last Saturday.
"We would have expected it to stay out in the country," she commented.
