Report from Ralph Barnett via George Markie
A DOG-WALKER has. been the latest to sight the Tayside -"big cat" yards from a Dundee, housing scheme.
Mr John Tervit was Walking his two Yorkshire terriers on the grassy area between the Myrekirk Road roundabout and the Kingsway just before 8 am earlier this week when the dogs stopped and cocked their ears.
He looked over to the edge of the tree-lined grass and saw what he described as "a big black cat, the size of a labrador."
Mr Tervit said there was nothing to obscure his view and he watched the cat for about 40 seconds from a distance of 15 feet.
He said he was sure. he was not mistaken. 'I know the difference between a big cat and a dog and what I saw was nothing like a domestic animal"
He reported the sighting to the police who are looking into the matter.
This sighting follows a motorist seeing an animal on the Forfar to Montrose road earlier this week.'
Broughty Ferry couple Frank Donnelly and Elma Lowson claimed to have seen the big cat earlier this month near the shell of Buddies night club.
They, too, were out with their dog when they spotted an animal which they said looked "like a puma."
Their explanation of what they saw is similar to that given by Mr Tervit.
Over the past few years there have been repeated sporadic sightings of unidentified cat-like creatures, mostly in fairly remote rural areas.
However the Charleston sighting earlier this week puts the animal just a few yards away from a busy housing scheme and Mr Tervit is concerned that people in the area should be on their guard.
