Had an old report come in last week of the sighting of a lynx in Glen Affric
about 13 years ago. Came from a Scottish Natural Heritage contact so that's
the second one via them which is a good sign. Anyway there were 2 witnesses
one of whom was the warden at the hostel at the time. When walking along a
ridge the saw the lynx at a distance of about 60m. It turned and looked at
them and they were able to see the tufts on its pointed ears quite
distinctly. I contacted the woman and I think they spoke with John Cathcart
at the time who was able to help them identify it as a lynx. She can't
remember all the details now but she did remember the length of the tail
being important in their description to John. I have looked back through my
records and the website but couldn't find any mention of Lynx in the Glen
Affric area. She also said they saw droppings when they were walking in the
area at that time that they could not identify as anything usual. She also
said they didn't mention it to many people for fear of ridicule although they
researched it quite thoroughly at the time. I have now rekindled her interest
and passed on the website details.
Does anyone remember any mention of Lynx in this area or where would be the
nearest, Argyll?
