Reported January 2001
A male witness was driving near Achahoish, South Knapdale, just to the south of Lochgilphead. It was dark and as he drove over the brow of a small hill, in his headlights he saw a large cat-like animal run across the road in front of him.
The witness is certain that what he saw was a puma. He describes it as being tawny brown in colour, about the size of a collie dog, but longer in length. As he reached the place where the cat had entered the gorse, he was surprised to see the cat still there looking at him from a distance of six feet.
After a couple of seconds the cat turned and ran away.
