25 th and 26 th July 1981, Ardersier, Inverness-shire
At 5.30 am on 25 July 1981, a workman coming off shift at the oil-platform construction site at Ardersier spotted some crows feeding on the carcass of a dead rabbit that was lying at the side of the access road to the site. He slowed down, and when he was about 15 yd from the carcass an animal came out of the undergrowth and crossed the road. He described it as larger than an Alsation dog, with short legs, large paws and a thick tail. It was tan-coloured and identical to a puma.
At 8.50 pm the following day a woman motorist was driving on the same access road when she saw a large lioness-like animal feeding on a dead rabbit at the side of the road. She described it as larger than a Labrador dog and yellow-brown in colour with a long thick tail.
