A major alert was sounded at a Scots zoo after five dangerous lynx went on the loose. And the public were kept outside while the beasts were hunted down. The break-out was only discovered an hour before doors were due to open to the public.
The vicious wildcats were finally found wandering around outside their cage by keepers after a spot heck. Anxious staff used dart guns to stun three of the escaped cats. The other two Siberian Lynx were forced back into the cage by keepers wielding brushes.
Last night bosses at Edinburgh Zoo were probing the incident. They are now compiling a report for Health and Safety chiefs on the how the lynx managed to get out of their cage.
"I dont know how they got out," said Dave Field, the zoo's animal section spokesman. "We have very extensive escape procedures so all the staff are geared up and know what to do."
